Spirits

Though renowned artist and designer Michael Curry is best known for his powerful and graceful large-scale puppets in Broadway's The Lion King, his work has been showcased in such venues as Disney theme parks on three continents, New York's Times Square Millennium show, the half-time show for the SuperBowl, the Olympics, for major stage shows in Las Vegas and in numerous works for theater and opera worldwide.

In 2001, Curry wrote and designed an ambitious multi-media stage show called Spirits, in which his lifelong muses lead the audience through fantastic worlds of ogres, devils, whimsy, and enchantment. This behind-the-scenes documentary leads the audience from concept to stage, where Curry, along with numerous collaborators including world-class choreographers, dancers, and a sterling jazz ensemble, realize this innovative performance.

The Spirits film clip on our website is from a film we produced of the performance, while the behind-the-scenes documentary of Spirits was first broadcast on Oregon Public Broadcasting's Oregon Art Beat and may be seen in its entirety at: http://www.opb.org/education/atschool/browse.php?type=v&cat=a
